Leach to coach Wazzu

Rejoice Wazzu! While it is definitely sad to see Wulff go, especially the class act he is, it is more exciting to have Mike Leach as our head coach of Cougar football!

Oh Hello...

Goodbye...

When I found out earlier today, it put me in the best mood! This signing has energized a fan base in hours, I saw on Twitter that the Cougar Athletic Fund website was overloaded. Has that ever happened? Best of all this has UW saying shivermetimbers with the thought of the Pirate commanding the troops on the sidelines of Wazzu!

Moos has been in contact with Leach since mid November just in case Wazzu crashed and burned down the stretch. Well we did and Moos wanted the pirate and only him. Well he got his man. While we are going to be spending somewhere in the range of $2.25 to $2.5 million per year, you gotta spend money to make money. Moos is changing the culture and Leach is just the person to take it to the next level after Wulff's foundation. Leach is a great fit at WSU for the following reasons.

He is an offensive genius who produces top 10 offenses like it was normal. Well guess what, the Cougs were 9th in passing this year and with Marquiss and Tuel it should be no different next year.

He coached in Lubbock, Texas which is very similar to Pullman, so he knows the family atmosphere how to bring in talent to small rural towns and how to make constant mediocre teams top 25 teams year in and out.

He has an eccentric personality, which is what a Wazzu needs. Pullman has been dying for some controversy, media coverage and someone who is exciting to follow, Leach is all those.

Go Cougs & In Moos we Trust

My thoughts concerning Paul Wulff

A 9-40 record is enough to fire Paul Wulff. Throw in his constant incompetence from staff management to his sideline antics, that is frankly enough to be given the boot.

And the final say is....

It was announced today that Coach Wulff will not be returing to coach the cougar football team in the 2012 season. Many fans have been on edge whether or not he would be kept after his most winning season with the team pulling in 4 wins, one being an upset on Dad's Weekend against Arizona State. No news has been made about the hiring process that will begin as Bill Moos looks for a new coach. The whole article can be found at the link below.

To Keep or to Fire Wulff

Bud Withers of The Seattle Times reports that Wulff is gone and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is the leading candidate to replace him.

My argument for Wulff...

First off, I think the Cougs have shown definite improvement this year without our best player Jeff Tuel. While improvement to 4-8 is mediocre at best, I don't think you fire Wulff without a legit candidate to replace him. Bill Moos must feel that a top tier candidate will come to Pullman over potential ASU and UCLA if they do fire their coaches as well (as well as schools outside the Pac-12).

Second, next year we have a legitimate shot at 8 wins, not including a bowl win with Wulff as head coach.

Third, I think if you do retain Wulff you need to give him at least a 2 year extension back-loaded with incentives.

Fourth, if Moos keeps Wulff as head coach he needs to make defensive coaching changes, because the D isn't getting it done.

Fifth, Wulff is a Coug, loves the school, the town & everything that accompanies it. He will not use Wazzu as a stepping stone.

Against Wulff...or in support of Leach

First, I've always been obsessed with Mike Leach and his offenses, so of course I want him which shows I'm a little bias.

Second, if you are guaranteed to get Mike Leach, I say you do it. In ten years at Texas Tech he went 84-43 with a winning season every year.

Third, Texas Tech was a small school in a rural area very similar to Wazzu, he is from Wyoming so Pullman life may suit him very well.

Fourth, Wulff is 9-40 in four years at Wazzu. Oregon won its 10th game this year. That's right 10 wins in one year and it's going to take us over 4 years to get to ten. No matter how you slice it, that's pathetic.

Fifth, Leach runs a spread offense, which is what Wazzu runs as well so the transition of the offense would be much easier than to a coach who runs the pro-style for example.

Honestly, either way I'm torn. I've never wanted a sports figure to be successful as much as I do Wulff. At the same time it's hard to be so patient for even a return to mediocrity. I only think you fire Wulff if he changes some defensive coaches and Moos does not have a guarantee from a top-tier coach. I don't want another small school coach, I want some controversy, I want someone to know who my head coach is. In the end I just want whoever we have to be successful. Go Cougs

Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust

It's that time of year again! Apple Cup time! The Apple Cup this year will be held in Century Link Field and as always, cougar fans are rallying and getting ready for the one game of the year that truly matters. Many cougar fans will consider a season with one win a winning season as long as that win is against the huskies. It's been predicted that the cougs will win by a very wise creature. In the YouTube link below you can watch and see just how this prediction was made.

Braving the Elements

With Thanksgiving Break in full swing, many cougars only just left town yesterday after braving the elements to support their cougar football team in a game against Utah. This game would be a deciding factor in the cougs keeping their bowl hopes alive. Despite many students already having left before Saturday, there was plenty of support in the student section. That support stayed all the way through overtime. The cougs battled back and forth against Utah, but just couldn't pull out a win. Utah ended overtime with a field goal, leaving the final score to be 30-27 in their favor. To be a coug fan isn't about the odds of the game and the projected outcome. It's about braving low temperatures and snow to let our teams know we are here for you. Go Cougs!

Undefeated Fans questioning when Wulff will be done

While Ryan Leaf waved the cougar flag high in Alabama at the ESPN Game Day at the LSU vs Alabama game, cougar fans every where were looking at the WSU vs Cal game and wondering when Wulff will be done as head coach after Cal rolled right over our defense to score 23 points by halftime and finishing the game with 30 points. Twitter posts of many cougar fans and friends were all asking the same thing, "When will Wulff be done" and proclaiming that the game was an "embarassment." While the undefeated fans stand firm behind their cougar teams, they unfortunately don't always stand behind the coaches leading those teams into the games.
